The Operations Officer (Payments) will report to the Payments Manager and will be part of the payments team which is responsible for the bank’s day to day payments function.

Who we are

Novum Bank Limited is a private credit institution that operates under, and applies, the European Union banking regulatory framework. The bank is licensed and regulated by the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) to operate outside Malta. The bank has two lines of products, card/store value and micro-lending. Our office in Malta is our head office and has 300 days of sun during the year. Here you can find 40 employees with (approximately 10) different nationalities. It is home to our board and our growing team of Finance, Debt Collections, Operations, HR, Sales, IT and Payments specialists.

What will you do?

  • Responsible for monitoring / processing daily outgoing and incoming payments including manual, single, batch, urgent payments through SEPA, SWIFT and third party payment providers;
  • Ensures all payments are handled within internal / external rules, internal / external cut-off times and internal product requirements;
  • Liaises daily with cards and lending operators for all matters related to payments;
  • Liaises with correspondent banks and third party payment providers on any issues related to payments;
  • Provides daily reporting required for reconciliation purposes;
  • Assists in preparing invoices and settlements from correspondent banks and third party payment providers;
  • Handles daily payments related reconciliations;
  • Ensure adherence to the bank’s payments related policies;

Other responsibilities may include:

  • Assist in daily, weekly and monthly cards and corporate reconciliations;
  • Assist in the cards daily operations and second level customer support;
  • Assist in documentation of the team’s Operational Procedures;
  • Providing ideas and suggesting ways for the improvement of operational systems, processes and procedures;
  • Execute ad hoc tasks as may be requested by the Manager

Skills and Experience

  • Ordinary / Advanced level qualifications or equivalent;
  • Experience within similar operational role within a financial services institution;
  • Excellent command of Spanish and English language;
  • Good communication and organisation skills;
  • Ability to manage time and prioritise work;
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office tools especially MS Excel;
  • The following are considered an asset:
  • o Experience with correspondent banks, SEPA , SWIFT and Payment Service Providers;
    o Experience in a Bank’s Treasury Department; o General accounting experience;
